High Park Fire

UPDATE 7/3/12 5:00pm – The High Park Fire is 100% contained, 87,284 acres were burned.  Most trailheads, campgrounds, and picnic areas have been reopened.  Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests have updated their website to show the impact to campgrounds and recreational areas.  You can see it here.

Below is a video taken shortly before the fire started in the area of Pingree Park where the fire still is being fought.  This is Jacks Gulch Campground, one of the many campgrounds in the area that remain closed but may reopen by Friday July 13th.  Much of the area east of this campground has been scorched, and I’ve heard this campground was used as a fire base.

Rant/Soapbox:  Pick up after yourself, pack out what you pack in, tread lightly, pick up after your pets.  We pick up trash when we take walks around campgrounds.   Don’t leave a trace you were there.  We used to camp at very primitive campgrounds, and we didn’t just leave it the way we found it, we left it as if we were never there.

In The Field Camping Podcast with Chris Rodriguez is a podcast that is literally recorded “in the field” while camping at various campgrounds. If we’re not camping, we’re not podcasting! We review campgrounds and camping equipment, suggest tips and advice, and go on camping-related soapbox rants. If you have any questions or comments, leave a voicemail (720)440-1080 or email chris@lightningrodradio.net.
